Doug Chapman is a food scientist (MSc.) with experience in product development, technical service, sales, B2B marketing and general management. He has held positions in the snack food and canning sectors but his major strength is as a fats and oils expert, having spent 22 years in progressive positions with Unilever companies. During that time he completed business training in the U.K., designed and built three food laboratories and managed a fats and oils business with a North American mandate. Subsequently, he was with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) for 10 years as the Director responsible for investment attraction to the food processing sector. He then assumed the position of Vice President of Technical Services for the Guelph Food Technology Centre (GFTC), where he managed client services for product development, packaging, labelling and pilot plant operations.
Doug is a strong food industry advocate through his involvement with local colleges and universities and board membership for several food concerns. He has also taken a leadership role in furthering innovation in food through a number of new joint initiatives. Currently he is a member of the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology (CIFST) Scientific Expert Panel for Product Development/Innovation/Marketing. He is also the Chairman for the CIFST Ontario Section; a group dedicated to furthering the needs of its technically based membership.
